TOPEKA (KSNT) – A new online game, developed right here in Kansas, is helping get kids excited about science. The game is called Reason Racer and it helps kids learn about Science in a fun way.
“I think it is effective and it’s just a another tool that we use to try to teach the whole idea of scientific argumentation,” Washburn Middle School Science Teacher Doug Stanley says.
Stanley uses the game as part of his lesson plans. Up to 20 students can race through a video ‘race’ course and learn about scientific argumentation during pit stops. The National Science Foundation gave the University of Kansas a $1.5 million grant to provide funding on research and development for the game. The game is suppose to target middle school students but researchers have seen 6th through 9th graders using it too.
