Terry Talley, Ed.D

STEM Consultant

I hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in science from the Mississippi University for Women and an Ed.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Administration from the University of North Texas. I began my career as a secondary science teacher, working with students in grades six through nine for 14 years. I later served as Science Teacher Specialist, Dean of Instruction, and eventually Supervisor for Science in two large North Texas Independent School Districts. I recently joined the Center for Digital Learning and Scholarship as the Assistant Director for Professional Support. Prior to joining Accelerate Learning – STEMscopes, formerly affiliated with Rice University, I was at the STEM Center as Program Director for the UTMB Office of Education Outreach upon my retirement with 20 years in public education. Why I joined STEMcoach STEMcoach provides an opportunity for me to continue to influence teachers as they incorporate best practices into their science classrooms for the benefit of all students. My passion is in science education at all levels and in creating pathways that make it possible for everyone to be engaged and learning–from the student, to the teacher, to the administrator, and to all stakeholders in the education of children. What I do at STEMcoach I have the opportunity to watch and record wonderful teachers as they use many of the best practices we honor.  I provide the background knowledge about curriculum and instructional practices in the STEMcoach online portion of the STEMscopes curriculum. Additionally, I am looking forward to the online support segment called “Talley’s Take.”  It’s a give-and-take blog for educators who love to discuss STEM and want to share and learn new things. My hope for the future classroom . . .  The graduates from our schools will have an understanding of how they can have an influence and can make a difference for their families and their communities through their knowledge of science and through an understanding of how to solve problems. We are on our way through STEM! In my spare time . . . I sail with my husband. We enjoy time on the water away from phones and computers. (Except those that help us navigate, watch the weather, and keep us from getting lost!) We sail in the Caribbean every year and on local lakes all the time. We are also sailboat racers. We race our Catalina 22 in regattas all over the southern United States every chance we get.
