I began my teaching career with Teach For America as a 5th grade self-contained science teacher. I was also a content specialist for Houston ISD, providing numerous hours of professional development training and coaching to teachers in the district. Later, I was Associate Director for the Center for Education at Rice University. Subsequently, I returned to Port Houston Elementary and served as principal before joining Accelerate Learning. Why I Joined STEMcoach I returned to Rice University to create STEMscopes™ and joined Accelerate Learning to help solve the STEM crises in our country and globally through our biggest leverage to eradicate this problem—education What I do at STEMcoach I am the creator of STEMscopes, but EdTech Digest refers to me as an “Edupreneuer,” or Education Entrepreneur. Awards and titles are fine with me, but being a science educator and an advocate and administrator of providing a high-quality education for our most under-served and underrepresented students is what is most important.
